call for paper and poster presentation

Kuwait Chapter of American Society of Safety Engineers is holding its Fifth International Health , Safety, Environment, and Loss Prevention, Professional Development Conference and Exhibition in March 2009. The event will feature

• Presentation of papers from interested professionals and invited international experts,
• Presentation of posters by students, researchers, and young professionals
• Exhibition of products and services on EHS

participation is invited from individuals and companies to a truly world class experience.

PROPOSAL INFORMATION

SCOPE
The objective of the conference is to promote safety, health and environmental protection in the region by providing a forum for practitioners from industry, academia, and government to share experiences, technological advances, and new ideas.

CONFERENCE DESIGN
The forth ASSE-KC International Professional Development Conference and Exhibition will be held on 9th & 10th April 2007. The theme of the conference is Business Excellence through HSE. Senior-level viewpoints are welcome as well as “how to” approaches or case studies. Two types of proposals are invited

• Paper presentations, and
• Poster presentations

Topics for Presentations
Any topics relating to HSE are welcome. The conference will cover the following departments

• Environmental Engineering and Management
• Process Safety Management
• Personnel Safety
• Fire Safety
• Loss Prevention
• Occupational Health
• Industrial Security

The detailed listing is given separately. Electronic submissions by e-mail are essential.

Language
Preferably English, Papers in Arabic are also be welcome
Eligibility
Professionals, Engineers, Managers, Teachers, Research Scholars and Students

Number of presenters
A maximum of three presenters are permitted per presentation.

CONFERENCE EXPENSES
Presenters shall be permitted to attend the conference technical sessions FREE OF CHARGE. Students and researchers registered with University or recognized research institution will be reimbursed a portion of the expenses (as decided by the Conference organizers) incurred on preparation of the posters.
PAPER PRESENTATIONS
Authors will be required to submit an abstract and conference paper meeting the guidelines. One of the authors will present the paper at the conference using audio visual aid and computer & LCD projector. Timing for paper presentation will be 30 minutes including discussion.

POSTERS PRESENTATIONS
A section of the venue will be dedicated to poster stands where the presenters will display their presentations. The topics will be the same as for paper presentations.

Display Configurations
The Standard Poster Display is a 1.2 x 2 m (approx.) double-sided panel. These panels have a horizontal orientation. The bottom edge of the panel will be 60 cm above the floor.

Mounting of Display Materials
Poster may be mounted with push-pins, tape, double sided sticker or Velcro fastener..

Poster Printing
Posters can be assembled from pieces of computer printed sheets, or hand-drawn in a manner the presenter considers best. Facilities exist in Kuwait and elsewhere for large format printing which may be utilized at presenter’s own expense.

Expectations
Paper presenters are expected to:

• Work closely with Conference planners in advance of the Conference;
• Provide a high-quality conference paper for inclusion on reference CD; a detailed format guideline will be sent to the selected authors;
• Provide a short outline for inclusion in the Conference brochure;
• Make no substantive changes in content, process, names or numbers of presenters without the approval of the conference planners; Agree to have the session audio and video recorded to provide ongoing learning for conference participants unable to attend their session (if appropriate to proposed design);
• Agree to refrain from marketing their products or services and to share openly their knowledge, experience, skills, and creativity with participants.
